Message from Sensei Seyler -- Living in Orlando, FL had given me the opportunity to broaden my martial arts skills. I have begun training with Grandmaster Chen Pui, founder of the American Wah-Lum temple in Orlando. Master Chen is world renown for his empty hand and weapons skills as well as the high quality of teaching he provides at the temple. I am looking forward to spending the next few years training with Grand Sifu Chen and getting back to my roots as a kung-fu artist. However I am not abandoning my Shudokan training and will continue to sharpen those skills as well. Anyone who would like to contact me reguarding training while in the Orlando area feel free to email me at: wseyler@cfl.rr.com.
First of all, congratulations to Mondre Culbertson. He had a big month. He graduated from nursing school, received his AF commission, and recently successfully tested for Shodan. He has departed for his first duty assignment in San Antonio, TX where he has already begun teaching private lessons.
For personal reasons Sensei Seyler will no longer be teaching at the Maxwell AFB location. He will be shortly moving to Orlando, Florida where he hopes that he can continue teaching. He is not leaving a vacuum. He has arranged for Sensei Lane Blondheim to continue teaching Bu Kyoku Kai karate at the same location. Best of luck to Sensei Blondheim and Sensei Seyler and Sensei Culbertson!
Congratulations to the following individuals that tested for rank on this day.

The Maxwell Karate Club attended it's forth United States Yoshukai Karate Association (USYKA) kickoff open karate tournament. The excitement of the day was tempered by the death of Master Yuki Koda the day before. Sensei Koda was a 7th degree black belt and the director of the USYKA. He was a friend to all martial artists and his passing leaves a void that can not be filled.
The following students received recognition.
Congratulations to the following students who endured a grueling day after Christmas test to achieve the following:

A group of students from the Maxwell AFB Karate Club attended the USYKA Kickoff Karate Tournament in Prattville, AL. The group was a composite of the Maxwell Karate Club led by William E. Seyler, and several Jujitsu students lead by Lane Blondheim. The participants displayed their skill proudly and took the following awards:
William Scott Seyler (the son of Sensei William E. Seyler) performed a grueling two hour test for his black belt. This test included kihon, kata, kumite, breaking, and written tests. Scott performed all techniques commensurate with the rank he was trying to achieve. Receiving his black belt was the cumulation of eight years of difficult martial art study. His father proudly tied it on him for the first time.
